Care for a spot of tea?
My curiosity aroused me to visit a local tea shop. This story tells of culture, tea time, and hospitality.
Since I was a wee lad, I always had a soft spot for warm drinks. Coffee, tea, cider — you name it. My Nonie fed me spoonfuls of coffee as a toddler, and of course, I love sweet tea. How could I be from the American south and not like sweet tea?
As a global staple, tea is an important cash crop for places like China and India. While the west knows of the singular “Lipton’s” brand, thousands of Chinese tea brands exist. Moreover, their selections and palettes are far more diverse in taste than in the US, where the popularity of tea trails behind coffee, beer, and milk.
Downtown Murfreesboro, TN, hosts many quaint, local businesses. There are bars, restaurants, an old-fashioned pharmacy, and more, but one place, in particular, caught my eye. Hidden away between some law firms on Maple street, one finds the cutest tea shop.
